Necklaces - These special pieces on the neck: why we love them and how they transform us
It provides a focus: Do you know this? Sometimes you wear a plain top and something is missing. The right necklace can be just the thing. It gently draws the eye to where we might want it to be: to the face, to the smile, to the line of the neck. It gives the whole thing an anchor point, a focal point. It rounds off the look: A simple sweater or T-shirt - with the right necklace, they often immediately look different. A little more chic perhaps, more casual, or simply more interesting. It's often this little detail that transforms an outfit from "dressed" to "styled". It makes it somehow... complete. It tells a story (often ours!): Many necklaces are more than just decoration. They carry memories. A pendant with a deep meaning, an heirloom from grandma, the first "real" piece of jewelry that you treated yourself to. You don't just wear it because it's pretty. You wear it because it is a part of yourself, a piece of your own history that you want to keep with you.
The very short ones (colliers/chokers, approx. 35-40 cm): They fit close to the neck, like a small ribbon or a fine hoop. They really emphasize the neck itself. Great with open collars, off-the-shoulder items or even daringly over a turtleneck. The "always-walking length" (princess, approx. 42-50 cm): This is the absolute classic. It usually ends up on or just below the collarbone. It goes with almost any neckline and is perfect if you have a pendant that you want to show off nicely without dangling too low.Medium length (matinee, approx. 55-65 cm): These reach approximately to the middle of the breastbone. This often looks a little more elegant and stretches the figure. Great over a sweater or with a slightly lower neckline - they follow the line nicely downwards. The longer ones (opera length, approx. 70-90 cm): We are moving towards the waist! These necklaces have a certain drama to them. You can often double them up, which is totally versatile. Great for evening looks, but also surprisingly cool over a simple, long shirt during the day.Very long & flexible (Rope/Lariat, over 90 cm): These are the quick-change artists. They can be wrapped several times, knotted or worn as a Y-necklace (lariat), which hangs casually down the front and draws the eye to the décolleté. You can get really creative here.
What does the excerpt say? This is usually the best place to start. V-neckline? A necklace that picks up on this line or a pendant that sits nicely in the "V" usually looks great. Round neck? Almost anything goes - short, medium length, try it out! Turtleneck or something completely high-necked? The necklace has to be worn over it - so something longer or an eye-catcher on top.Several at once? Absolutely! Layering is not only trendy, it also looks super personal. Play with different lengths so that each necklace has its place and doesn't get tangled up all the time (different lengths are worth their weight in gold!). Feel free to mix materials and thicknesses - a delicate necklace next to a slightly more robust one? That creates excitement!Less is sometimes more (or not!): Are you already wearing huge earrings or a very eye-catching top? Then a more discreet necklace might be more harmonious. But do you want the necklace to be the star? Then keep the rest (earrings, bracelets) to a minimum. It's all about balance, about where the eye should wander.Where to? Sure, you might choose something different for the office than for a beach party. But don't let yourself be too restricted - sometimes the unexpected break in style is the exciting thing!Metal mix? Yes, please! Forget the old rule of not mixing gold with silver. It looks super modern and casual today. Don't be afraid!
It is best to take it off before showering, swimming, sports or when handling creams and perfume. Store them in such a way that they don't get scratched or hopelessly tangled - small bags, hooks or jewelry boxes with compartments are great. Clean gently from time to time - how exactly depends entirely on the material. A soft cloth often works wonders.
