Necklaces – Those special pieces on the neck: why we love them and how they transform us
It gives a focus: Do you know that? Sometimes you wear a plain top and something is missing. The right chain can be just the thing. She gently directs the eye to where we might want it: to the face, to the smile, to the line of the neck. It gives the whole thing an anchor point, a center point. It makes the look “round”: A simple sweater or a T-shirt – with the right necklace they often look different immediately. Maybe a little more chic, more casual, or just more interesting. It's often this small detail that takes an outfit from "dressed" to "styled." She somehow... completes it.She tells a story (often ours!): Many necklaces are more than just decoration. They carry memories. A pendant with a deep meaning, an heirloom from grandma, the first "real" piece of jewelry you treated yourself to. You don't just wear this because it's pretty. You wear it because it is a part of you, a piece of your own history that you want to have with you.
The very short ones (necklaces/chokers, approx. 35-40 cm): They lie close to the neck, like a small ribbon or a fine circlet. They really emphasize the neck itself. Great with open collars, off-the-shoulder items or even daring over a turtleneck. The "Always Go Length" (princess, approx. 42-50 cm): This is the absolute classic. It usually ends up on or just below the collarbone. Fits almost any neckline and is perfect if you have a pendant that you want to show off beautifully without dangling too low.Medium length (matinee, approx. 55-65 cm): These extend approximately to the middle of the breastbone. This often looks a bit more elegant and visually stretches. Great over a sweater or with a slightly lower neckline - they follow the line nicely downwards. The longer ones (opera length, approx. 70-90 cm): We're moving towards the waist! These chains have a certain drama. You can often double them, which is very versatile. Great for evening looks, but also surprisingly cool over a simple, long shirt during the day.Very long & flexible (rope/lariat, over 90 cm): These are the quick-change artists. You can wrap it multiple times, knot it or wear it as a Y-necklace (lariat), which hangs casually down at the front and draws the eye into the décolleté. You can get really creative here.
What does the excerpt say? This is usually the best starting point. V-neck? A chain that follows this line or a pendant that sits nicely in a "V" usually looks great. Round neck? Almost anything works – short, medium length, try it out! Turtleneck or something really high-necked? The chain has to be worn over it - something longer or an eye-catcher that lies on top.Several at once? Absolutely! Layering is not just a trend, it just looks super personal. Play with different lengths so that each chain has its place and they don't keep getting tangled up (different lengths are worth their weight in gold!). Do you sometimes mix materials and strengths – a delicate chain next to something more robust? That creates tension!Sometimes less is more (or not!): Are you already wearing huge earrings or a very flashy top? Then a more subtle chain might be more harmonious. But should the chain be the star? Then hold back the rest (earrings, bracelets). It's about balance, about where the eye should go.Where are you going? Sure, you might choose something different for the office than for the beach party. But don't allow yourself to be restricted too much - sometimes the unexpected break in style is the most exciting thing!Metal mix? Yes, please! Forget the old rule about not mixing gold with silver. This looks super modern and casual today. Feel free to dare!
It is best to remove it before showering, swimming, exercising or when handling creams and perfume. Store them so they don't get scratched or hopelessly tangled - small bags, hooks or jewelry boxes with compartments are great. Clean gently every now and then - how exactly depends on the material. A soft cloth often works wonders.
